AWL is an experienced integrator and “early adopter” in the field of laser welding. Laser welding offers speed, precision, high productivity, new construction possibilities and cost benefits. In order to guarantee a fast welding speed and a reliable process, the product design, jig design, integrated airflow and other preconditions must be of the highest quality. AWL has years of experience in these fields and innovation is deeply rooted in its DNA, leading to very successful projects for our customers.
AWL is seen as one of the most representative machine builders and systems integrators that apply laser, arc and resistance welding techniques.
Resistance welding offers a lot of potential for producing and supplying automated production equipment. In many industries, this technique is mostly used for large volumes. High strength steels, aluminum and fiber-reinforced plastics with metal inserts are playing an increasing role in the development of materials for, among other things, lightweight purposes. We notice different types and newly developed materials being used in projects. In all these developments, resistance welding is one of the jointing processes that are becoming increasingly suitable for these materials. With resistance welding you can think of spot welding, projection welding, seam welding and stud welding.
Arc welding is a proven joining method in the metalworking industry. With this process, many metals can be welded, such as steel, stainless steel and aluminum. The majority of our customers use this technique in combination with robot automation. For arc welding you can think of MIG / MAG welding, MIG soldering and TIG welding.
Laser cutting offers the possibility of making and adapting parts quickly, accurately and flexibly. Laser cutting can also be combined well with a robot, which increases the machine's flexibility even further. A laser cutting robot makes it possible to adapt, check and modify parts flexibly, or to cut holes per part.
In the coming years, aluminum will be increasingly used in the production of cars in order to save weight. To prepare for this development, AWL is constantly investing in research into aluminum laser and spot welding.
In our Experience Center, we weld aluminum with a robot spot welding cell, equipped with state-of-the-art welding controls and robot-servo technology. This enables us to gain knowledge and experience and test the applications and electrodes service times.
Jig quality is crucial for stable production with a high volume. AWL jigs guarantee the quality of your end product and flexibility in configuring the welding process. Our jigs are suitable for a wide range of joining techniques, from gluing to spot welding. We also see a strong increase for laser welding. We install them from Germany to South Africa and from China to the United States. We guarantee your worldwide productivity by developing high stability and quality jigs.
Gluing provides a continuous joint between the parts. Using glue in the bodywork delivers extra rigidity and crash safety. Gluing is the ideal solution for joining different materials, such as steel and aluminum or metal and plastic. Gluing is also used for making parts watertight or sealing them, or in supporting these functions. This jointing technique is frequently applied in car doors and engine hoods.
Smart robot application
Increasing the effectiveness of your robots is an important consideration for AWL. We are developing intelligent applications in this field. We have developed visual applications that make it possible to convert 3D CAD data into robot code and to subsequently edit this data. This way we simplify the process. This enables us to move welding points without much programming work; complete shapes can be rotated, scaled, moved or mirrored even.
Machine control design has a significant effect on the quality of the production process. AWL uses a solid methodology to specify the functionality and to translate this into smart machine control design. The machine software architecture has a sound and transparent structure. This gives you as the customer machine reliability and speed and any issues can be quickly detected via the user-friendly Human Machine Interfaces (HMI).
The production lines developed by AWL are regularly combined with automatic assembly machines. Also logistics handling, such as product supply systems, form the basis for production line automation and are therefore an essential part of AWL's total solutions. The reliability and the accurate and efficient supply of products depend on the exact handling of these systems. Functions such as sorting, orienting, positioning and detecting must be done quickly, safely and reliably.
Traceability is the collection of data throughout the production process. Production processes can be optimized by combining and analyzing this data. A good traceability system exposes critical points in a production process. The data-driven machine control makes AWL very flexible in integrating traceability systems. It is even possible to use traceability data within a machine.
